what a joke! for once a catholic priest says or does the right thing and he's told to step down. well I guess that ruins his chance on wearing that big pompous pope hat! Oh well boys will be boys or maybe girls in catholic eyes.

I'm appalled by your suggestion that Pflegler was asked to step down for doing the right thing. This is the first time a diocese has actually acted quickly to address a misguided priest. It is about time too.

You are probably not even a Catholic and if you are you are the joke. I do not want to hear about politics when I go to church!

He was asked to "take a leave" for saying the truth. He did not say anything that Hilary herself did not say/imply when she brought race into it by declaring she should be the candidate due to her ability to reach "hard working white men".

SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE IS MENTIONED SOMEWHERE IN THE CONSTITUTION I BELIEVE.

HE NEEDS TO SHUT HIS HOLIER THAN THOUGH MOUTH CONCERNING POLITICS AT THE PULPIT. WHO IS HE TO STAND THERE WITH HIS GREATER THAN GOD ATTITUDE AND CONDEM A PERSON RUNNING FOR POLITICAL OFFICE.

      SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
      SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
      SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE
      SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE

HAVE I SAID THIS ENOUGH. TIME TO STOP THIS INTER-MINGLING BETWEEN RELIGIOUS LEADERS AND POLITICAL LEADERS.

The joke is this guy and his hateful rhetoric! How dare he consider himself a christian! He should be ex-communicated from the Cathilic Church for his anti-christian diatribe!

TAKE AWAY THEIR TAX EXEMPTION! That is the only real punishment the church understands.

They will place a Priest on leave for speaking up for Black people but they transfer Priest for molesting children I guess things are still the same in some places.

Father Pflegler was not "speaking up for Black people." He was racist and hateful. He should be REMOVED not asked to step down.

What he said was absolutely true. In Hillary's mind she believed that she was entitled to the nomination. And she may have been due to all the humiliation she suffered during her husbands campaign. However, when the smoke cleared, the best man clearly WON! It has been said that she and Bill have been lining up their peons in order to facilitate a win for her. Didn't work! Power to the People! Barack Obama will be the next president of the US.

Father Pfleger might have believed what he spoke was truth. However it should not have been done in the guise of a sermon to give it credibility. If he wants to express these types of opinions then let him get on a soap box on a street corner in Chicago and vent to all races and religions. I venture to say he wouldn't be nearly as brave, hateful or racist with his remarks.

You can read minds? Wow, you should go to Vegas. Did she think all that "I'm white and he's black" stuff too? I'm not the biggest Hillary fan, in fact, I've hated her for years, but I never took her for a bigot, just a sleazy liar. I get the feeling that anyone running against Obama is going to be tabbed a racist bigot. Welcome to Election '08. This is going to be fun.

I think what the priest said was 100% accurate. Hillary tried to smear Barack name and character from the very beginning throughout the race. Alot of those tactics used by her and her insignificant other were racial at times. This leads me to believe that she does feel that an African-American man is beneath her. Today I saw pictures of her on the internet and in the papers and I saw a face of DEFEAT! This defeat was by an African American man and his name is Barack Obama. I hope that she apologizes for her misconduct before the two campaigns unite. Power to the People!

A good analogy of this would be one little kid calling another kid, fat. It's a mean thing to do and we scold children for doing it. The first kid was probably correct, the kid is fat. What the priest did was wrong, but not untrue.

Really? Oh dear. First of all I did not suggest that his comments were offensive. However, the opinion expressed is what will continue to keep the party divided. If you can't understand that, I would guess you agree with the statement and no amount of discussion would enlighten you.

I merely asked you to elaborate. How exactly will the comments expressed divide the party?? I'd like to understand your thought process. Maybe if you communicate how certain comments are contributing to this unfortunate divide, someone will actually recognize (as per you) the divisiveness in their thought process...and potentially refrain from spewing out such. Maybe your explanation will provoke a different thought...a more unified thought! You do want the party to be unified, right?? Enlighten me please!

As a catholic, born and raised, went to catholic schools with 2 uncles for priests and an nun for an aunt, I know the catholic church. It is pompus. Unfortunately, many Bishops do consider themselves and their church outside the laws of this country, but it does not teach hate!!!! I am dissappointed that Rev. Michael Pfleger has only received a suspension. I think he should have been removed from any pastorial duties. A man of 59 years knows what he is doing, has well formed and long held opinions and 2 weeks of reflection just isn't seriously going to make a dent in sickness that has invaded this mans mind.

It was right for the Cardinal to request the good Priest to step back and reflect. Priests are not supposed to take on political activism pro or con for a candidate. But, he was absolutely right, he just should not have said it at that church. Surely he must have known the scrutiny the church was under by the press and his remarks would be carried world wide. Now his remarks will be used as another club against OBama and I'm sure that was not his intent. Life is not fair especially in politics.

This priest was preaching hatred. It is the duty of the church to spread love and understanding. I am willing to bet Pfleger would be removed from his duties if he spoke about Obama in the same light. His parishioners would have demanded action. I guess it is okay with the church and the public if hatred is preached against women. I believe any priest who preaches this message should be removed as a priest. Father Pfleger should be sent to a mission where perhaps he will discover love and compassion. He owes all people an apology. The Cardinal should step forward and do the right thing. Remove Pfleger from St. Sabine and silence him until he takes stock of what it means to be a Catholic priest.

As a lifelong Catholic this is rather confusing. The Vatican needs to address this. Either the priests, and nuns, can be political or not. If they are to be political then they cannot be punished for their opinions; if they are not to be political then ALL of them should be punished for their opinions. Can't have it both ways.

I vote that they should have a political voice, personally.

You can be an Obama supporter and still see this this priest's words and actions as absolutely repulsive -- this is like "reverse" KKK language -- from a priest ... with everyone in the church laughing and egging him on! Since when is it ok for a man of God to spit out such hate and nastiness? He talked with such recklessness and abandon, I thought he might be drunk. People think he was "supporting" Obama? Ridiculous! Who cares whether the message about how Senator Clinton approached her campaign for the presidency has any merit? Who cares? Jesus Christ would never have sought to elevate himself or anyone else by degrading someone in the way this priest did. It is classic bigotry. Black people. White people. Everyone! Stand up and oppose this as an ok way to express opinion. This is not a political issue. It is a moral issue. Suggest this priest take a two week time out? What a joke. Here's the Catholic Church, once again, protecting its own.

He was right even now the bitter White woman will not step down and admit defeat. There was no hate in what he said just the truth. We all know that the truth hurt sometimes and as a free Nation regardless of what religion you are you should be able to say what you want. When Hillary lost the black vote and then she ran to the working White class and we all know she divided this country more.

We do our selves much harm denouncing men of God and especially when we are more accepting of the opinions, ideology and philosophy of so called intellects who think nothing of our spiritual well being.

I will say that the words of Father Pfleger becomes abundantly clearer each and everyday as with the Obama's win being overshadowed by the fact that this lady has done nothing to acknowledge and accept his victory. Such behavior can only happen when one thinks that ones opponent is beneath ones dignity. I have to wonder if her behavior would be the same if she had lost to a Caucasian.

But be that as it may, To Father Pfleger i would say, if you were truthful in your utterances then you should feel no shame from God. The truth at times is a reproach especially to sinners. Your church however needs much to be desired especially in a country where free speech is a privilege.

The utterances spewed by Father Pfleger is no worst than the words uttered over the years exhorting slavery, the genocide of native Americans, Negros, Asian and others. Yet many white Americans are behaving as if the are innocent of any racist acts.
Father Pfledger being a white American has given vent to the thoughts of the down trodden which for me is a welcoming change one in which I see truth been spoken to power. I applaud Father Pfledger for his humanity, and the fact that what he has said is becoming even clearer even as we haggle on this blog.
As for your condemnation of Pfledger as a man of God... shows an abysmal ignorance as the pulpit of all places is where truth should be spoken at all times the hall mark of a man of God. you have yet to acknowledge that what he spoke was untruth....

I think the Father should be removed and I also believe that Rev. Wright should be removed, both preach hate and not the true word of God. It's hate and racism that they both preach and if anyone believes that it is truthful then shame on you. You have fallen into their world of hate and bitterness both are not Christian qualities. Both ministers have no business behind the pulpit.

As far as Senator Clinton being upset that Senator Obama is black, that's just absurd. Look at the Clintons track record on that one.

What I have been reading and beginning to understand more each day is, the obama followers hate anyone who they feel is standing in the way of obama being nominated and elected president. These followers have no real basis for hating Hillary Clinton as much as they do, they have been brainwashed by obama and his church and preachers and priest into believing that Clinton is a witch and out to harm and destroy obama and so their hate is built. These followers have not read or researched any data about Hillary Clinton, only have read and seen what the MSM and obama have told them to believe. So if they can hate Hillary Clinton because they believe she stands in obama's way, who will they hate after they start demeaning John McCain? They hate and demean and insult with profanity any person that will not vote for obama and hate with a passion anyone who states publicly they won't vote for obama.
What is happening here is that a hate filled cult has been formed, headed by obama, which if elected president, he will carry right to the White House and from there, what will he do next? What will his followers do then? Will they start attacking those people who are disenchanted with obama physically now?
I am so tired of hearing their bad judgment calls against Hillary Clinton when they probably never even heard of her before this election. Where is this country heading?

Has anyone looked into the non-profit status of a church that advocates politics from the pulpit? This is a violataion of IRS rules. Wright says the black man is 'entitled' to it, Pfleger did a non priestlike thing and kicked a human when they were very publicly down. He told us what he thought someone else was thinking.
With great power comes great responsibility. Glad the Catholics are moving faster these days.
Being asked to sept down? He earned it.
Now, someone speak for him, his feelings and thoughts and maybe he'll be closer to the humilility that is what his job should be about. Maybe he saw all the fame the other minister has gained and was jealous.
Check the tax free status, wake 'em up and get these guys back the business of church work.

What a rude and misogynistic comment! He would never had said that if the candidate had been a white male. This priest needs to also reflect on WWJD?

Ann Moore: Father Pfleger was appealing to the people in the church and its followers. It probably would have been worse had it been a white male.

Jesus, was anti-political and anti-selling trinkets for your salvation (cough, cough, history of the catholic church, uh...Indulgences and Martin Luther). WWJD? He would probably walk through every pol-igious chuch he could find turning tables.

The comment probably would have been more accurate were the subject a white male.

That video clip was shocking -- this shows a man of God? His manner of conveying his ideas is extremely negative and sarcastic, and his mean spirit negates whatever opinion he meant to convey. Can you imagine Jesus speaking thus? I don't think so. This man should not be leading a flock, anywhere, anytime, until he gets some serious help from a mental health professional.

Now acting -- that might work for him.

Actually, comedy would be better. If you omit the video and only listen to the audio, he sounds like a comedian. I really don't believe his statements were racist, it just should have been said during a stand-up comedy act, not from the pulpit.

If that had been the case, no one would have cared. However racist or not, he should not his made the statement in such a manner.

...again it seems that the Catholic chuch will quickly rememdy any problem that doesn't involve its army of pediphiles.

Freedom of Speech is not an umbrella for inciting hate and racism in any manner.
